Japanese Wife's Adventure in the U.S.

NY=アメリカでないのでは? ←個人的にNYはマジで独特なエリアだと思ってる

Egg White

Although I didn’t write this story, I remember that my husband threw away one egg white because the part he needed was yolk. After he cooked, I asked him, “Where is the yolk of the egg?” Then I scold him that what you’ve done is a waste of food and its life! I was shocked by his stupidity. Good grief!

Anyway, when I eat something, especially meat, I usually appreciate their lives in my heart. It’s a kind of common sense all over the world but for Japanese, we are generally educated in this sense from the words “Itadakimasu”. We always say it before eating meals and this is like a greeting and charm but there are no english words which can be substituted for them. These words show appreciation to foods, their lives and nature because, in my opinion, most of Japanese historically think there are a large number of gods around our lives without consciousness. This idea towards gods is now not a specific religion among Japanese but I feel it roots as our good education and culture. I really love this idea and these words.

I felt my husband was a little boy when I scolded him. Sigh…

Need Colors

After it became necessary to wear masks in public places, I didn’t feel like going outside. But the day when I had to buy some food was finally coming. So I found the easiest way to make masks on the Internet.

That was great and materials I need are only one gauze handkerchief and two hair rubbers or ribbons. I should have looked it up sooner! Anyway, then I chose a handkerchief which is colorful and is like spring from a drawer.

During being out with this colorful mask, I was very happy that I wanted to show it off. In this season, I don’t wear my favorite clothes because I don’t go to fancy shops and nobody wears beautiful clothes. That’s why I think I need more colors that lead me to a colorful daily life. This is a very little thing but I'm now buzzing about the next time when I have to make another mask with another handkerchief.

Enough Size to Bring Happiness

Green market was one of the things I really miss and, fortunately, I found the same kind market in my neighborhood! The market was much smaller than one I usually go to, but enough to enjoy seasonal vegetables and easy to get there by walking because for that market where I always go, I need to take a train from my home.

Seasonal foods are rich in nutrition and taste, and we can feel each season from vegetables and flowers at the market even if we don’t buy anything as if they give us power. I love using them for my cooking. I really appreciate those worker’s efforts to run the market.

But I’m NOT confident of getting up early in the morning on Saturday in order to get more vegetables.

Gift of Grab

I watched the press conference of Andrew Cuomo who is, needless to say, the governor of New York State and he holds the conference everyday to explain the latest details around us, the policy of this state and his thoughts. Actually, I hadn’t watched it because I don’t often watch TV and I also can receive such simillier information from the Internet and e-mail newsletter.

The reason why I wanted to watch it was how great his speech is. I’ve already read some articles which say his reputation is starting to grow because of his strong attitude as a leader; furthermore, even among Japanese articles including blogs, I found some people admire his leadership skill. That’s why I wanted to try to make sure of it.

To say the least, that was amazing and I was really impressed by his and his group’s resolute attitude and how to speak especially when they answered questions from the press. Although someone should be judged whether s/he is excellent or not as a politician by what s/he did (not by what s/he said), I feel I should learn presentation skill (English as well) from him as a business person. I didn’t expect that it’s getting interesting but it is from my point of view.
